Game download time calculator

Work out the time left before a game or update finishes downloading. Use your actual download speed for a more useful estimate.

Your download

Use the download size shown by the launcher, which can differ from installed size.

Internet plans usually use Mbps. Check your launcher: 100 Mbps equals 12.5 MB/s.

Keep 100% when using an observed download speed. Reduce it to allow for a shared connection or a slower server.

Estimated remaining time

Know when you can play.

Enter the size and speed, then calculate. For an interrupted download, include what you already have.

Try a realistic example

A 100 GB game at a steady 100 Mbps takes about 2 hours 13 minutes to download. If 25 GB is already downloaded, the remaining 75 GB takes 1 hour 40 minutes.

This estimates transfer time; it does not run a speed test or predict a particular game server.

How the estimate works

Time = remaining data in bits ÷ usable speed in bits per second. We subtract the amount already downloaded, then apply your usable-speed percentage. A steady speed is assumed throughout.

GB and GiB are different

1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes. 1 GiB is 1,073,741,824 bytes. Choose the unit your launcher actually reports.

Bits and bytes are different

There are 8 bits in a byte. A 100 Mbps connection transfers at up to 12.5 MB/s before overhead. MB/s here uses decimal megabytes, not MiB/s.

Why can the real download take longer?

Wi-Fi quality, other devices, launcher limits and the download server affect transfer speed. Disk writing, patching and decompression can also pause a download. The installed storage requirement is not necessarily the amount the launcher downloads.
